ORGANISATION
The Adolphe Merkle Institute is an interdisciplinary research institute of the Faculty of Science at the University of Fribourg devoted to pure and applied nanoscience. The AMI is divided in four complementary research sections that closely collaborate in an interdisciplinary manner:
Polymer Chemistry & Materials (since 2009)
Softmatter Physics (starting mid 2011)
Biomaterials (starting mid 2011)
Surface Science (planned in 2014)
Two smaller research groups complement the research activities with their contributions in the fields of “Nanoparticle synthesis and characterization” and “Exploring analogies to biology and food science”.
The AMI is governed by an institute council composed of 2 representatives of the University and 2 representatives from the Adolphe Merkle Foundation.
An international external scientific advisory board provides advice on scientific and structural questions.
Together with other research groups of the faculty that conduct materials oriented research and development of new advanced functional materials, the AMI forms the Fribourg Center of Nanomaterials (FriMat).
The AMI and FriMat are financially supported by the private Adolphe Merkle Foundation.
